Quizlet actually has a lot of useful and convenient features. The wordlists on Quizlet are of all kinds of topics and creating one’s own wordlist is simple, it’s easy to find a wordlist that’s useful for everyone. The disadvantage of using the Quizlet to learn vocabularies is that there’s a lack of productive practices and the vocabulary is not learned in a context, but a relatively isolated environment. This makes me wonder if it’s reliable to use wordlist like the Quizlet to learn vocabularies. I think students doing well in the practices and tests in Quizlet doesn’t mean that they’ve acquired the word. When the word appears again in a reading, the students might not be able to recognize the word. Also, they might not be able to use the word when they’re writing or speaking the language. Although I really doubt about the effectiveness on the long term of wordlist tech tools like Quizlet, every coin has two sides, I still think it can help the students with short-term memorization. That’s why students like to use a wordlist to remember the vocabularies when they’re preparing for a language test. It’s efficient and provides students high frequency of practices can actually help students to know the vocabulary in their exams. Although the students might forget the words immediately after they’ve taken the exam, wordlist still helps them to achieve their learning goal.

I will recommend Quizlet as an assistant tool to learn the vocabulary. It can be used to revise the words, but the students still have to learn the vocabularies in a meaningful context and practice using the words in the way of producing their authentic language.
