Liulishuo App

Liulishuo app provides free courses that ask learners to listen to English materials and then repeat the materials and rate their recordings according to the pronunciation, accuracy, and fluency. The materials consist of a variety of themes, from daily life English to business English. There are four different level for beginners with no English knowledge at all, elementary learners, intermediate learners, and advanced learners.

The design of the app is clean and brief. I think the most useful feature of this app is that it corrects your pronunciation. It encourages learners to link the words together, rather than to speak disjointedly, which I think is a common difficulty for Chinese learners of English. The app grades your recording for you to refer to. Although the scoring system can be not so accurate sometimes, you can always compare your record to the original material created by native English speakers sentence by sentence to correct your pronunciation. Liulishuo is a useful tool for Chinese learners to speak English more native-like.

I will use Liulishuo to as an extra homework. Students who have higher aspiration for their pronunciations and intonations will benefit a lot from this APP.
